Is Salsa a food group?

Thanks to Grandpa Orr, our kids get an extra serving of vegetables almost each and everyday. How you ask?

SALSA

When we went to Idaho over Labor day weekend, we helped George make salsa. They had so much of it, we got to bring home quite a few jars. I have been grinding it up in the food processor so it's not "chunky". The kids ask for chips and salsa ALL the time. We got home from church and they wanted chips and salsa. They absolutely LOVE it.

You take it out of the food group when you blend it. Chunky is the best!! And it is only a healthy snack if chips are baked. :-)

Dad made fresh salsa yesterday and oh man has it been a while. I too love salsa....it's definetly it's own food group along with chocolate. You should have at least 6 servings of chocolate a day and 4 servings of salsa

Chunky or blended, same nutrients, eh? That is cool that your kids will eat it. We were saddened that the garden froze a couple of nights ago, but we picked everything that we could and still have some batches of salsa and marinara sauce left to do. We have enjoyed dehydrating our pasta tomatoes and have really enjoyed throwing them in for sun dried tomato recipes.
